The beastly little pile of junk I rode around in Cuba was a 50cc Sym automatic scooter.
I tried in vain to get hold of a decent motorbike, with at least a couple of gears and a top speed higher than 70kmph but alas, every gringo I saw surely enough, was on one of these slow-ass scooters. Of the 3 places in Havana that advertised scooter hire, only one place had a bike that worked. Nearly all were falling apart, unroadworthy, or the owners had closed shop due to the ridiculously high taxes and government regulations imposed on owning and renting vehicles. With the huge influx of new tourists entering Cuba, I’m sure this situation will change soon enough.
Roads aren’t too bad and the traffic is light and easy to drive in. They are generally very careful and polite drivers these Cubans!
